Yellowhead Tribal Services Agency Caring for Our Own Child and Family Support Services Program provides support services to families with Child Welfare status who reside within the 5 member First Nation Communities of Alexander First Nation, Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation, Enoch Cree Nation, O'Chiese First nation and the Sunchild First Nation. YTSA has been providing the Caring for Our Own Child and Family Support Services Program to the 5 First Nation communities since April 1, 1998.
The YTSA Caring for Our Own Child and Family Support Services Program was Established to provide the five members First Nation communities with the Culturally relevant child and family services that is required at a community based Level, there is a criterion that must be met in Order to provide effective services to families.
First Nation people to be served by First Nation people who have the skills and training to empower others to become healthy and productive.
Achievement of program objectives is evidenced when the youth/child(ren)/family can effectively communicate that they are doing better, that they have increased their learning skills, such as parenting/anger control and are willing to change and accept constructive feedback
The YTSA Caring for Our Own Child and Family Support Services Program is truly a unique support system for children and families. Utilizing First Nations people to work within our communities inspires our children and families to continue to believe in First Nation customs, traditions and family ties. The Yellowhead Tribal Services Agency believes that the Caring for Our Own Child and Family Support Services Program gives children and families hope for the future.
Criteria
A need for service must be identified,
A case plan must be identified
Child(ren) who receive the service must have child welfare status
Children will be in a safe and nurturing setting
Families would be together to address issues such as parent/teen conflict, substance abuse and to work at developing positive parenting styles and improving communication skills
Provide sort term intervention until family/children) and the case worker can identify the risk stage and help the family/children) to cope
